Gazans return home

Thousands of displaced Palestinians continue to return back to their destroyed homes in the northern Gaza Strip, a day after the ceasefire between the Hamas resistance movement and Israel came into effect. Following the Israeli withdrawal from parts of Gaza based on the ceasefire agreement, rescue crews are now combing through destroyed buildings to recover dead bodies. The bodies of 155 Palestinians were delivered to hospitals across Gaza on Friday. Some 135 of them were recovered from the rubble. Under the ceasefire deal, Hamas will release all 48 remaining Israeli captives, dead or alive, within 72 hours of the agreement taking effect. Israel has also published the names of 250 Palestinian prisoners out of the 2,000 it has agreed to release. Around 600 trucks are also expected to enter daily under the ceasefire agreement, but there’s no word yet on Israel allowing any in so far. The US-Israeli genocide in Gaza began in October 2023. So far, over 67,000 Palestinians have been confirmed killed and nearly 170,000 injured.

Israel Lebanon strike

Israel has launched another deadly attack in southern Lebanon, marking yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement with the Arab nation. At least one person was killed and seven others were injured in an airstrike on the village of al-Najariyah in the Sidon district. The Israeli military claimed it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure. The Lebanese resistance movement has yet to respond to the claim. The attack drew strong condemnation from Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun. He called it a heinous aggression against civilian sites with no justification or pretext. Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, Israel continues to launch attacks and maintain a military presence in five strategic locations in southern Lebanon.

Israel under fire at UNSC

Venezuela's ambassador to the UN has slammed the U-S for gravely threatening peace in Latin America. He says Washington is disguising its aggressive actions as self-defense. Speaking before the UN Security Council, Moncada said the US is trying to seize Venezuelan oil like it did in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Afghanistan. Moncada added that the US is willing to "set the Caribbean on fire" to uphold its ideology of endless war. He stressed that Washington promotes endless war through a global propaganda machine and an industry of lies and death. Russia’s envoy echoed the criticism, rebuking the US for employing a “shoot-first cowboy approach” on the world stage. China’s ambassador also condemned the US strikes as a violation of fundamental human rights. Other Security Council members, including US allies France, Greece and Denmark, too, echoed concerns about the breach of international law. The United States claims it’s targeting vessels involved in drug trafficking. However, Venezuela has rejected those allegations.
