Palestinian Americans gathered as the first stage of a Washington-negotiated ceasefire between Palestine and Israel has been agreed upon.
The mood was decidedly upbeat and victorious, but major doubts remain about the sincerity and integrity of Washington and Tel Aviv.
We are cautiously optimistic. We want this genocide to end. We want this war to end.
We want the people of Gaza to have some rest, to look up at the skies and not see bombs and drones.
But we're also cautious, because we were here six months ago, celebrating the first ceasefire.
And look at where we are now.

Israel continues to stall on key issues, including the return of displaced Palestinians, the names of prisoners to be released, and they continue to bomb Gaza.
The current agreement only covers a few objectives of Washington's 20-point plan.
Last week, Hamas agreed to the general principles but called for further negotiations on the details.
This is very similar to what happened with the Oslo Accords, where the core issues were left for final negotiations and we never got to that point; same thing here.
Israel wants indefinite control of Gaza. Israel wants to maintain its occupation, siege and blockade.
This was mainly done so that they can achieve their prisoner exchange or get the release of the hostages.
But Palestinians are still suffering under systematic oppression and domination, and that is what needs to come to an end.

US President Donald Trump will travel to the region this weekend to attend the signing of the agreement, which he and the chief negotiator of Hamas have declared would end the war.
But many wonder if Israel will actually stop their attempted genocide.
I grew up going to protests in 2008 for the Gaza siege, in 2014 for the Gaza siege, in 2021 for the Gaza siege, and now 2023.
So for us, our generation, we know that a ceasefire, although it is welcome, it is only a band aid solution, without liberation, that there will be another siege on Gaza.
And as long as the US continues to send military aid to Israel, it'll be the same pattern over and over again.

US public opinion has finally swung in favor of the Palestinians.
Many pro Zionists were shocked last week when a top poll found that, for the first time ever, more Americans side with Palestine than with Israel.
