University students from various cities in the UK have come together to participate in pro-Palestine demonstrations on the second anniversary of the historic Operation al-Aqsa Flood by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas into the occupied territories on October 7, 2023.

In London, hundreds of students gathered on Tuesday to protest against “the beginning of genocide in Gaza”, displaying a banner with the names of Palestinians who lost their lives outside King’s College London near the Strand.

During the Inter-University March from King’s College London towards London School of Economics, University College London, and the School of Oriental and African Studies, participants chanted slogans such as “Palestine will live forever” and “Palestine will be free.”

At Sheffield University, approximately 100 individuals joined a protest outside the students’ union building, expressing their anger with chants like, “Occupation is a crime, get your hands off Palestine.”

Meanwhile, at Edinburgh University, hundreds gathered to criticize the calls made by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and the university management to refrain from participating in the protest.

Earlier in the day, Keir Starmer urged students not to take part in pro-Palestinian protests on the anniversary of the October 7 attack on Israel.

He also emphasized that holding demonstrations on the anniversary lacks consideration for others and is deemed 'un-British,' claiming that some have used protests as a pretext to target British Jews, which he condemned as “despicable.”

Other rallies are also organized at the Universities of Strathclyde, Manchester, Bristol, and Leeds.

The Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7 was in response to decades of oppression and inhumane military confinement of 2.2 million Palestinians in what is considered the world’s largest concentration camp for close to two decades.

Following the operation, the Israeli regime initiated a genocidal war on Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 67,074 Palestinians and injuries to over 169,430 others, with a majority being women and children.
