Aiming for 'multilateralism'

Snapback decision 'legally baseless'

Iran, China and Russia have written to the UN Security Council a letter they signed in Tianjin. China denounced as ‘legally baseless’ the decision by the European trio to trigger the snapback mechanism against Tehran. Abbas Araghchi says the letter slams the move by Germany, the UK and France as ‘politically destructive’. Araghchi stressed no party can erase the sequence of the events and it was the US that first violated the 2015 nuclear agreement and Resolution 2231. He added that the move by Washington was followed by Europe that aligned itself with unlawful sanctions instead of honoring its own commitments within the deal. The top Iranian diplomat emphasized that facts must be the basis of any serious discussion at the UN Security Council. The joint letter argues that the E3’s course abuses the authority and functions of the Security Council and misleads the international community on root causes of the failure of the JCPOA.

Genocide of Palestinians unabated

The Israeli regime continues its genocidal campaign in Gaza, with Gaza City being the focal point of intensified attacks today. At least 50 Palestinians have been killed in strikes since Monday morning. Residential areas across Gaza City were heavily bombed, destroying homes and killing civilians. A media blackout has been imposed, while many displaced residents, forced into tents in western Gaza city, have also come under attack. Meanwhile in Deir al-Balah city, Israeli airstrikes targeted the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. Dozens of aid seekers are among the victims of today’s attacks. The death toll from the Israeli genocidal war which began in October 2023 has exceeded 63,500. Over 160,600 people have been injured.
