Israeli assassination of Yemen’s minister of information ‘war crime’: IRIB World Service

Sayyid Hashim Sharaf al-Din

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) World Service has strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on Yemen, which led to the martyrdom of the Arab country’s Minister of Information, Sayyid Hashim Sharaf al-Din, as well as several other senior officials, labeling it a “war crime” and “a blatant violation of all human covenants.”

The IRIB World Service made the remarks in a statement on Sunday, following the Israeli regime’s assault on a high-level meeting of Yemeni government officials, which resulted in the deaths of the prime minister and several ministers, including Sharaf al-Din.

“The child-killing and oppressive Zionist regime, in a blind and cowardly act of aggression, targeted the high-level meeting of Yemeni government officials. The bullets struck the bodies of the Prime Minister and eight of his ministers and deputies—including this Sayyid of resilience and perseverance—but they could never strike their ideas and ideals,” it said.

The statement further cautioned international organizations, human rights assemblies, and free media that remaining silent in the face of such bloodshed signifies complicity in the crime.

It also expressed confidence in Yemen's ability to rise from the devastation, emphasizing that the blood of martyrs like Sharaf al-Din will nourish unwavering resistance in the nation.

The statement further highlighted the determination of the Islamic Ummah and the global community to not only remember this bloodshed but also to use it as a symbol to continue the pursuit of freedom.

Sayyid Hashim Sharaf al-Din, recognized as the true son of Yemen, a guardian of truth, and the standard-bearer of the voice of the oppressed, is now celebrated as an eternal martyr, the World Service said.

Throughout his honorable life, he utilized his “pen” as a “weapon” in the media battlefield, countering the arsenal of lies and distortion propagated by Zionism and its allies supporting oppression and aggression, it added.

His legacy is depicted as a torch of awakening that will guide future generations from darkness to light, forever linked with truth-seeking champions of history, according to the IRIB World Service.

On Thursday, Israeli airstrikes on the Yemeni capital claimed the lives of Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahawi of the National Government of Change and Construction, and other senior officials.

The Israeli airstrike, which also left several senior ministers wounded, marks a significant escalation in Israel’s ongoing military aggression against Yemen.

The Ansarullah government was holding a routine workshop to assess its activities over the past year when it was targeted by the Israeli jets.
