Iran and Iraq have signed a bilateral security MoU. This follows a meeting between the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and Iraq’s National Security Adviser in Baghdad. The security document was signed in the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia’ al-Sudani. The prime minister reiterated Iraq’s opposition to the Zionist regime’s aggression against Iran. Al-Sudani also stressed Iraq’s extensive efforts to strengthen fruitful partnership in various fields for the benefit of both nations. Ali Larijani for his part expressed Iran’s readiness to develop cooperation in different areas, particularly linking the two countries’ railways. Larijani is scheduled to travel to Lebanon on the second leg of his three-day tour. He will convey Tehran's messages to Lebanese officials regarding the recent developments.

Road to development?

Iran’s President says it must be ensured that the Caucasus transit corridor will serve as a route for peace and development, not as a means of achieving foreign powers' colonial objectives. Masoud Pezeshkian made the comment in a phone call with Armenian Prime Minister, Nikole Pashinyan. He also emphasized the non-intervention of any military force in the implementation of the Yerevan-Baku transit corridor. Pezeshkian warned against any possible actions by the United States under the cover of economic activity and insuring peace. He stressed Iran’s support for any agreement that would boost peace among regional countries. Prime Minister Pashinyan, for his part, asserted that regional routes will function within the framework of the countries’ territorial integrity, sovereignty and jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Tehran remains in close contact with Yerevan and Baku regarding the recent developments that directly or indirectly affect the Islamic Republic’s interests. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran attaches great importance to maintaining strong relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia. He stressed that any proposed corridor in Iran’s northwest must fully respect the region’s geopolitical sensitivities. Baqaei announced that high-level talks will soon be held between Iranian and Armenian officials, providing an opportunity for Tehran to share its views and concerns.

Killing of Gaza journos slammed

A wave of condemnation continues to pour in from across the world over the Israeli attack on journalists in Gaza, raising urgent calls for international action to protect media professionals in conflict zones. The UN human rights agency has condemned Israel's targeted killing of six journalists in Gaza as a grave breach of international humanitarian law. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk emphasized that Israel must respect and protect civilians, including journalists. At least 242 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 2023. Meanwhile, Reporters without Borders urged a UN Security Council emergency meeting under Resolution 2222 to protect journalists in armed conflict. Qatar’s Prime Minister has also slammed Israel's targeting of journalists as crimes beyond imagination while lamenting the international community's failure to prevent such tragedies.
