US-Israel Gaza genocide
More civilians are killed in Gaza where the Israeli genocide of Palestinians is still raging after more than 21 months. More than 50 Palestinians have been killed since dawn. An Israeli drone attack on a water-distributing vehicle in central Gaza’s al-Nuseirat has killed at least two civilians. This after Sunday’s attack on children trying to get drinkable water from a distribution point. Gaza’s media office says Israeli attacks on people waiting for water have killed more than 700. In central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah, occupation forces targeted children trying to get food supplements. Meanwhile, a strike on a residential building in northern Gaza’s Jabalia killed two civilians, and another attack in the southern city Rafah claimed two more lives. The Gaza death toll has surpassed 58,000, with over 138,500 injured.
Netanyahu corruption trial
The Israeli prime minister has appeared in court for another hearing of his corruption trial. Benjamin Netanyahu stood trial in Tel Aviv District Court following a two-week postponement upon his request and the support of the US President. Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, all of which he denies. In the first case, Netanyahu and his wife are accused of accepting nearly 300,000 dollars’ worth of luxury gifts in exchange for political favors. If convicted, the Israeli prime minister could face up to ten years in prison. Guilty of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza genocide, Benjamin Netanyahu is already facing an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court.
Countering Trump tariffs
The European Commission has proposed tariffs on 72 billion euros worth of US goods if trade talks fail. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, who is leading negotiations on behalf of the EU’s 27 countries, presented the proposal to EU trade ministers amid rising tensions. He emphasized the Europeans’ desire to continue dialogue. However, he warned that Brussels is preparing for all outcomes, including well-considered, proportionate countermeasures. On Saturday, US President Donald Trump threw months of careful negotiations into uncertainty by declaring that he would hammer the EU with 30% tariffs if an agreement was not achieved by August 1.
