Iran nuclear program
Iran says it has prepared a raft of proportionate measures to be taken in case the International Atomic Energy Agency adopts an anti-Iranian resolution. Baghaei said Tehran's options in response to such a resolution have been prepared in cooperation with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. He criticized a recent report by the IAEA Director General on Iran’s nuclear program. Baghaei said Rafael Grossi’s report is politically motivated to serve the agendas of the U-S and its European allies. He said Grossi’s remarks serve the political objectives of countries that are Iran's adversaries. Baghaei emphasized that Iran expects the IAEA chief to condemn the repeated threats posed by the US and Israel, rather than attempting to justify them. He reiterated that according to IAEA's standards and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran’s nuclear program has never deviated from its peaceful course.
Israel war crimes in Gaza
An independent UN commission has accused the Israeli regime of committing war crimes in Gaza and taking measures that constitute an attempt to obliterate Palestinian life. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory slammed Israel’s attacks on schools, religious and cultural sites. It said the regime has obliterated Gaza's education system and destroyed over half of all religious and cultural sites in the territory. The commission asserted that Israeli forces have also committed crimes against humanity, including extermination, by deliberately killing civilians sheltering in schools, religious sites, and supposed safe zones. It emphasized that there are more and more indications that Israel is carrying out a concerted campaign to obliterate Palestinian life in Gaza. The commission’s report came as the latest findings show that Israel has destroyed more than 90-percent of schools and university buildings in Gaza, along with over half of the territory’s religious and cultural sites.
US immigration protests
The US state of California has filed a legal lawsuit to block the Trump administration from deploying troops to Los Angeles to control protests over immigration raids. On Tuesday, California Governor, Gavin Newsom, filed an emergency motion seeking a court order to prevent the National Guard and Marines from being deployed on the streets. He called President Donald Trump’s order to send trained war fighters into cities “unprecedented,” warning that it threatens the very foundation of American democracy. Newsom accused Trump of acting like a tyrant rather than a president, arguing that his actions will escalate tensions and fuel civil unrest. A district judge, however, denied his request for an immediate restraining order. The judge, instead, gave Trump, his Defense Secretary, and the Pentagon 24 hours to respond to the governor’s filing. He also scheduled a hearing on the case for Thursday. The mayor of Los Angeles has declared an overnight curfew in the downtown area after several nights of unrest and vandalism.
