Israeli strike kills one in southern Lebanon: State media

A car burns after an Israeli drone strike in the town of Rashkananya, Tyre district, Lebanon, March 4, 2025.

An Israeli drone strike has killed one person after it targeted a parked vehicle next to a house in the town of Rashkananya, Lebanon’s Tyre district.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) published the image of a burning mangled car next to a house on Tuesday.

The latest Israeli airstrike comes against the backdrop of a not-so-solid ceasefire between Hezbollah and the regime, which was put in place on November 27, 2024.

It mostly halted more than a year of hostilities, including two months of full-blown war, during which the regime’s forces crossed the border and invaded southern Lebanon.

The regime has been carrying out strikes on Lebanese citizens and territory since the ceasefire.

On February 27, the regime said its forces had struck a Hezbollah observation post in the south.

Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Israel was initially supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but requested an extension until February 18.

However, in violation of the terms of the agreement, it announced just before the deadline that it would “temporarily” keep troops in “five strategic points” near the border.

The Lebanese leaders said on February 18 that they had contacted the ceasefire mediators, France and the US, in regards to the “occupation” of the five points.

The UN says the incomplete Israeli withdrawal is a violation of the ceasefire agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Last week, war minister Israel Katz said that the regime’s forces would remain indefinitely in what he called a “buffer zone” in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Parliament speaker Nabih Mustafa Berri has said his country will not allow the Israeli regime to impose new realities on the ground.

Despite the terms of the ceasefire agreement, which states that the Israeli regime has to withdraw from Lebanon, it has established a border security zone inside Lebanon.

“The Israeli occupation was not limited to the five border hills, but extended to establish a border strip extending a kilometer or two inside Lebanese territory,” Berri said.

Berri called on the international community to halt the repeated Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.

“Lebanon will not accept any attempts to trade aid for political or military conditions, whether related to the resistance’s weapons north of the Litani River or other internal issues.”

He also accused Israel of interfering in the affairs of neighboring countries, particularly Syria, in which case by manipulating the demographic composition and protecting certain groups such as the Druze.

The regime’s recent military advancements in the occupied Golan Heights have drawn condemnation from the UN and Arab nations.
