A decision by Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to stop the entry of all humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip has been welcomed by the regime’s far-right coalition, with lawmakers and ministers urging the prime minister to “open the gates of hell” on the people of Gaza.

Netanyahu’s office said on Sunday that the prime minister decided to stop the entry of all goods and supplies into Gaza until Hamas agrees to a US-backed extension of the first stage of the ceasefire deal.

Far-right minister Bezalel Smotrich, whose party is crucial to keeping Netanyahu's regime in power, said Sunday that the prime minister's decision was "an important step in the right direction."

He urged Netanyahu to "completely halt humanitarian aid to Gaza until Hamas is destroyed or completely surrenders and all our hostages are returned.”

Describing Tel Aviv's move as the “threshold of the gates of hell," Smotrich said, "Now we need to open those gates as quickly and lethally as possible on the cruel enemy, until absolute victory."

In separate remarks, the deputy speaker of the Knesset echoed Smotrich’s words, saying that Tel Aviv “must make Palestinians feel that the gates of hell have truly opened.”

Nissim Vaturi urged the regime’s military to start “bombing food warehouses in Gaza.”

Vaturi has previously criticized Netanyahu for dealing with Gaza’s population “too leniently.”

Separately, Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said that Netanyahu must cut off electricity and water in Gaza until Hamas releases all Israeli captives.

He said that this is the right moment to “open the gates of hell” on Gaza.

Under the framework of the “temporary ceasefire,” proposed by Washington, half of the remaining living and deceased captives held by Hamas would be released on the first day.

Hamas has ruled out that approach and instead called for the second phase as originally planned. It has also warned that Tel Aviv “bears responsibility” for the fate of Israeli captives.
