Ramadan in Palestine

Muslims around the globe are celebrating the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, and reflection. Saudi Arabia and some Arab countries started the month on Saturday, with some other Islamic nations, including Iran and Morocco, declaring Sunday as the first day of the holy month. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, marking the period in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During Ramadan, Muslims focus on spiritual growth, community, and charity, with the aim of fostering empathy for those less fortunate. Iftar, the evening meal breaking the fast, often becomes a communal event where families and friends gather to share food and blessings.

US arms for Israel

The US secretary of state approves more than 3 billion dollars in arms sales to Israe,l which used US-made weapons against Gaza’s civilian population and infrastructure. Marco Rubio has signed off the new transaction, which includes munitions, bulldozers, and related equipment, citing a national security emergency to bypass the congressional inspection. This follows another significant sale earlier this month, totaling 7.4 billion dollars in military equipment. The recent arms deals come in the wake of Israel's intense military offensive in Gaza, leading to substantial destruction and displacement in the region. In response to concerns over civilian deaths, then-president Joe Biden's administration blocked a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel last year. However, Donald Trump has rolled back that decision, with the latest sale including weapons of that size.

Trump-Zelensky clash

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope for repairing relations with the United States after his meeting with President Trump erupted into a shouting match at the White House on Friday. Speaking to Fox News, Zelensky stressed his country’s urgent need for US support against Russia’s larger and better-equipped military. He said he visited America for dialogue, but US officials kept repeating the same old accusations. Zelensky said what happened in the Oval Office meeting was bad for both sides and wished it hadn’t happened before the cameras. He, however, refused to apologize, insisting he had done nothing wrong. Zelensky's olive branch came hours after Trump and his Vice President JD Vance melted down at him, accusing him of refusing to accept their proposed truce terms. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later called for Zelensky to apologize for his behavior at the meeting, saying he wasted their time with a dialogue that wasn’t going to bear any result.
