The occupied West Bank has become a “battlefield” as Israel is repeating its genocidal actions in Gaza there, says Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The head of UNRWA wrote on X on Wednesday that the occupied West Bank is undergoing an alarming spill-over of the Gaza genocide.

More than 50 people, including children, have been reported killed since the Israeli aggression started five weeks ago, Lazzarini said.

“Destruction of public infrastructure, bulldozing roads and access restrictions are commonplace. People’s lives have been turned upside down, bringing back traumas and loss. Around 40,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.”

"More & more people are relying on humanitarian aid at a time when aid agencies are overstretched & severely under-resourced."

At least 50 Palestinians, including children and former abductees, have been kidnapped in the West Bank since Tuesday, according to a joint statement by the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.

Furthermore, the Israeli regime’s ban on UNRWA and closing of its facilities across the West Bank has significantly restricted the agency’s activities across the occupied territory.

The Israeli regime began its offensive in the occupied West Bank after it reached a ceasefire agreement with Hamas on January 15.

The operation in the West Bank is one of the largest since the Second Intifada (uprising) by Palestinians in the 1990s.
