Palestinian prisoner rights groups say another Palestinian prisoner, who had been abducted by Israeli forces in Gaza, has lost his life in prison.
The prisoner, Rafat Adnan Abu Fannanah, 34, breathed his last in custody, said the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society in a joint statement on Wednesday.
Abu Fannanah was injured as he was being abducted on Oct. 7, 2023.
He was being held at Ayalon Prison. Shortly after he was transferred to a medical center in Tel Aviv, he was pronounced dead, the statement said.
His death brought the number of Palestinian detainees who have died in Israeli detention to 60, including 39 from Gaza, since October 2023, according to Palestinian figures.
At least 10,000 Palestinian prisoners are in the regime’s prisons.
The figure does not include those abducted from the Gaza Strip whose numbers are estimated to be in the thousands, rights groups say.
A ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement is underway in Gaza, under which Israel will release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
