West Bank Palestinians fear Gaza style destruction as Israel escalates raids
Amid some of the most intensive Israeli raids in the occupied West Bank in decades, the Palestinian people fear the regime will deliver the same type of destruction it caused in Gaza.
The people of the occupied West Bank fear the regime will deploy the same tactics it deployed in Gaza after it started its genocidal war in the now-ravaged enclave.
The Israeli regime has already demolished large swaths of land in the now-empty Jenin refugee camp.
The regime has destroyed the territory’s structures and in its place has created wide roadways for the comings and goings of its military forces.
At least 40,000 Palestinians have lost their homes in the northern part of the West Bank since the regime began its offensive just a day after it reached a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in January.
“Jenin is a repeat of what happened in Jabalia… The camp has become uninhabitable,” said Basheer Matahen, the spokesman for the Jenin municipality.
Jabalia was a refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip that the regime destroyed.
Israel Katz, the minister for military affairs, said on February 23 that the camps have been cleared out and the refugees are not allowed to return since the regime’s forces have prepared for “a prolonged stay for the coming year.”
The regime’s offensive in the northern West Bank is one of the largest seen since the Second Intifada (uprising) more than 20 years ago.
It includes several brigades of Israeli troops backed by drones, helicopters and, for the first time in decades, heavy battle tanks.
The Israeli regime has claimed it intends to battle Hamas and the Islamic Jihad in the occupied territory.
But the Palestinians say the real intention is the permanent displacement of the Palestinians and replacing them with Israeli settlers.
On January 15, the Israeli regime, failing to achieve any of its military objectives, was forced to agree to a ceasefire deal with the Palestinian resistance movements.
