The political bureau of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement has condemned the US decision to blacklist them as a terrorist organization.
In a statement, the movement on Thursday described it as a desperate attempt to dissuade Yemen from continuing to support the just cause of Palestinians.
The movement said the unjust decision also aims to support further the Zionist entity’s crimes against the Palestinian people and increase the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Ansarullah accused the US of blatant hostility towards the Yemeni people.
The statement said that US history is stained by terrorism and it is not well-placed to classify others as terrorists.
Ansarullah also warned of the consequences of the decision on the economic and humanitarian affairs in Yemen and peace efforts that have reached an advanced stage.
Earlier on Thursday, Nasr al-Din Amer, the deputy head of Ansarullah’s press service, said that the United States' recent classification of Ansarullah as a terrorist organization will ultimately fail, just like their attempts to confront the group at sea which have ended in defeat.
“Being included on the US list of allies would have posed greater risks and been far more provocative than being labeled as a terrorist organization," he said.
Amer added that the US is directing its actions against the people of Yemen due to their support of Gaza, emphasizing that this recognition is a great honor for Yemenis and integral to their ongoing struggle.
The movement had already clarified that it does not have any investment, bank accounts, or businesses in the United States and that its members do not travel to the country.
Iran condemns blacklisting as unjust, baseless
Separately, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman also condemned the US decision.
Esmail Baqaei warned that such unilateral and baseless actions further undermine the rule of law in international relations and threaten regional peace.
He said the US blacklisting is a pretext for imposing inhumane sanctions against the Yemeni nation.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday officially designated Ansarullah as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), threatening to mobilize its regional proxies against Yemen in an attempt to pressure the Yemeni people to abandon their support for Gaza.
The designation came in response to the Yemeni army’s military operations on Israeli-occupied territories, and assaults on US Navy warships and Israel-linked vessels in the region since November 2023, launched in support of Palestinians being killed by Israel in Gaza.
