American warplanes have conducted multiple airstrikes against targets north of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, after Yemen’s military claimed responsibility for a retaliatory operation on the USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea.

Yemen’s al-Masirah television channel reported that four aerial raids took place in the al-Azraqeen area, during the early hours of Sunday.

The extent of human or material losses resulting from the airstrikes has yet to be disclosed.

The airstrikes came hours after Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Yemeni army, announced in a statement that the country’s forces had targeted the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier “with a number of drones and cruise missiles” in the Red Sea.

He also warned “hostile forces in the Red Sea of the consequences of any aggression against [Yemen] during the ceasefire period in Gaza.”

The latest incident marks the eighth assault on a US aircraft carrier by the Yemeni Armed Forces since its arrival in the Red Sea in December.

In a show of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, Yemeni forces have been targeting Israeli and Western assets since November 2023, after the onset of Israel’s devastating war on Gaza in October 2023, as well as responding to American-British aggression on Yemeni soil.

To pressure Israel into halting its brutal war on Gaza, the Yemeni army has also been targeting ships linked to Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

As a result of these operations, the Eilat port south of the occupied territories has effectively been shut down, causing significant economic repercussions for Israelis.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have vowed to continue their attacks until Israel’s ground and aerial offensives in Gaza cease.

Israel has killed at least 46,899 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 110,725 other individuals in Gaza since the onset of the war. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under rubble.
