Israeli forces have left a trail of death and destruction in the southern Lebanese town of Tayr Harfa before pulling out as part of their two-month ceasefire with Hezbollah, Lebanon's National News Agency says.

Israeli forces have “bombed and burned” most of the houses in Tayr Harfa, and destroyed or damaged olive fields and fruit trees, the agency reported on Sunday.

Earlier, the news agency reported that emergency workers had retrieved the body of one person killed by Israeli troops in the town.

The Lebanese army deployed soldiers to Tayr Harfa last week, as civil defense crews combed through the town for missing people and removed rubble.

The Lebanese army announced on Saturday that its units had completed their deployment in several towns and villages in the south after the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

"The army units are completing their deployment in Ras al-Naqoura, Tyre, and villages in the western sector, including Alma al-Shaab, al-Dhahira, Aitaroun, Tayr Harfa, Majdel Zoun, al-Salehni, al-Qaouzah, and Bint Jbeil, following the Israeli enemy's withdrawal," the army command said in a statement.

"The Lebanese army is working to strengthen its deployment and secure important points, in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the five-member committee supervising the ceasefire agreement," it added.

Lebanese soldiers also established a new checkpoint between the southern towns of Ramyeh and Marwahin.

The Israeli pullout from Tayr Harfa came after the regime was forced to agree to a ceasefire with Hezbollah following more than a year of a full-scale war.

Hezbollah opened a front against Israel after the regime unleashed a war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, carrying out numerous retaliatory attacks against targets in the Israeli-occupied lands.

Israel was forced to accept the truce with Hezbollah on November 27, 2024, after suffering heavy losses on the battleground and failing to achieve its goals despite killing over 4,000 people in Lebanon.

The deal, due to expire on January 26, gave Israel 60 days to pull out its forces from the occupied towns and hand over the control to the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.
