Yemeni forces have carried out an operation against US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea which lasted nine hours, a military spokesman says.
They targeted the US strike group with several cruise missiles and kamikaze drones, Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement aired on Yemen’s al-Masirah television channel on Saturday night.
“This is the fifth time we have targeted the aircraft carrier since its arrival in the Red Sea,” Saree said.
“The operation achieved its goals successfully and forced the aircraft carrier to leave the theater of operations and flee to the far north of the Red Sea,” he said.
The operation was in support of the Palestinians in Gaza and in response to the first joint aggression by the US, Britain and Israel against Yemen, Saree added.
At least one person was killed and nine others were injured in the air raids which targeted a power station in the capital Sana’a as well as sites in the northwestern province of 'Amran, and the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah on Friday.
US and British forces deployed to the Red Sea have repeatedly attacked Yemen's military and civilian infrastructure in a bid to dissuade the country from targeting Israeli-occupied territories and Israel-linked vessels sailing in the region.
Saree pledged that Yemen's armed forces will launch more attacks against Israeli assets within the occupied territories until the “aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.”
'Myth of US invincibility shattered'
Chairman of Yemen's Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, said the ongoing US-British aggression against Yemen is “being carried out in order to support the criminal Zionist regime, and help it continue the genocide against the residents of the Gaza Strip.”
“This anti-Yemen aggression has so far resulted in a year of defeat and failure for the enemies, and a year of victory for the Yemeni people. What the Yemeni nation and armed forces have done over the past year is unprecedented and unparalleled in the history of fighting US bullying,” Mashat said.
Yemen's armed forces, he said, have shattered the myth of the US military’s invincibility, and challenged the effectiveness of American aircraft carriers.
“Our missile and drone units have developed new armament, such as Palestine-2 hypersonic missiles and Yafa drones. These new weapons have been able to bypass all of the Zionist regime's anti-air missile systems,” he added.
“Yemen has now entered the club of few countries capable of producing hypersonic missiles. Only a small number of countries around the world have the ability to manufacture these missiles.”
The Yemeni nation, Mashat said, will honor its religious, fundamental and humane obligations in support of the Palestinians.
He said weekly pro-Palestine demonstrations across Yemen are strongly indicative of the Yemeni people's solidarity with their Palestinian brothers.
‘Resistance will go on until Israel annihilated’
A leading member of Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement also said the Axis of Resistance will continue its fight against Israel until the regime’s complete annihilation.
"The Axis of Resistance will move forward, and will not stop once operations are halted in one area," Mohammad Ali al-Houthi said.
He said the Yemeni people are united in their support of the Ansarullah movement, and any misstep against Yemen is doomed to failure.
Houthi warned of Israel's plans to carve out parts of Syria and Lebanon for itself and even usurp land in Egypt and Jordan, because the regime hopes incoming US president Donald Trump would support such an expansionism.
The Ansarullah official urged Arab states to set aside their differences and unite against the Tel Aviv regime.
