The Israeli regime has deployed military reinforcements to the southwestern Syrian province of Daraa, in a clear indication of the illegal entity’s plan to expand its occupation on the Arab country’s soil after the fall of former president Bashar al-Assad and his government.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network said in a report late on Saturday that the Israeli occupation army had brought reinforcements to the village of Ma’ariya in the countryside of Daraa, located on the Syrian-Jordanian border.

Citing unnamed sources, the Lebanese channel said the Israeli forces installed high concrete barriers and paved all the roads leading to their barracks.

“The Israeli army has begun conducting armored patrols on the foothills at the base of the strategic Mount Hermon on the Syria-Lebanon border,” the sources added.

The regime has been conducting sporadic attacks on various areas in Syria since the country’s former government was toppled by militants.

Israel launched airstrikes on military targets near the port city of Latakia in northwestern Syria on Saturday.

The regime’s airstrikes had two days earlier targeted military sites south of Aleppo, causing massive explosions and fires in the area.

The Lebanese television network reported on Thursday that the Israeli forces had reached the al-Mantara Dam in the Quneitra countryside, the largest dam in southern Syria, stressing that the occupying regime had seized control of the six most strategic bodies of water in the south.

The occupation comes as Israeli news website Walla reported that, “Despite the pressure exerted by European parties on Israel, the political level directed the Israeli army to prepare for a long presence in Syrian territory.”

The Israeli regime has occupied some 600 kilometers of Syrian territory since the Assad government was toppled last month by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants.

The militants took control of Damascus on December 8 and declared an end to Assad’s rule in a surprise offensive that was launched from their stronghold in northwestern Syria, reaching the capital in less than two weeks.
