Russia says its air defense forces have shot down several US-made ATACMS missiles fired from Ukraine.
The country’s defense ministry said on Saturday that eight US-made ATACMS missiles had been downed.
Russian troops also seized the village of Nadiya in eastern Luhansk, it said.
Russia’s defense ministry said its air defense systems had shot down 10 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory on Saturday morning, including three over the northern Leningrad region.
Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the Leningrad region, which includes St Petersburg, said Russian forces had shot down two drones near Luga Bay in the Gulf of Finland.
Political experts and others following world developments are waiting to see how Donald Trump’s return to power later this month will impact the war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said last month that Russia was open to talks on Ukraine after Trump called for “an immediate ceasefire and negotiations.”
Peskov said the peace negotiations had to be based on agreements reached during the Istanbul talks in 2022 and on the current battlefield realities.
