On the first day of the New Year, the Israeli regime slaughtered 17 Palestinians in the northern Gaza refugee camp of al-Bureij.
Twenty Palestinians were also injured in the Wednesday airstrike, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
The Israeli military made no comments about the heinous crime, but its Arabic spokesperson claimed on his X account that the regime had warned the residents “to evacuate ahead of an imminent airstrike.”
According to WAFA, Israeli tanks also shelled parts of Gaza City, triggering a new wave of displacement.
Israel claims it is forcefully displacing civilians so that they are safe when strikes hit Hamas positions. The reality on the ground is nowhere near what the regime blatantly states.
Palestinian and United Nations officials have repeatedly said there is no safe place for the refugees in Gaza, and these forceful evacuations only worsen the humanitarian conditions of the population.
The Israeli regime has razed much of the area around the northern towns of Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Beit Lahiya, and forced refugees out of these regions.
There are speculations that Israel intends to keep those areas, turning them into a closed buffer zone after the campaign of genocide is over.
According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, in the past two days, heavy rains have flooded more than 1,500 tents sheltering displaced people across Gaza, leaving the refugees exposed to the cold and damaging their belongings.
And Israeli attacks on the last functioning hospitals of Gaza have pushed the besieged territory’s healthcare system to “the brink of total collapse.”
That is according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The OHCHR on Tuesday warned of the “catastrophic effect” of the deteriorating healthcare system on Palestinians’ access to health and medical care.
Israel’s genocidal campaign has taken the lives of 45,500 Palestinians and injured more than 108,000.
Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been displaced and much of the besieged territory is in ruins.
