Israel’s war on Gaza health system ‘death sentence’ for tens of thousands: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has strongly warned about the dire consequences of the Israeli regime’s war efforts targeting the health infrastructures in the Gaza Strip.

On Saturday, the body wrote in a post on X, former Twitter, that “the systematic dismantling of the health system in Gaza is a death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians in need of health care.”

“This horror must end and health care must be protected. Ceasefire!” it added.

The organization was referring to the regime’s October 7, 2023-present war of genocide against Gaza that has so far claimed the lives of nearly 45,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

WHO singled out the regime’s most recent raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital for criticism, saying the attack “has put this last major health facility in North Gaza out of service. Initial reports indicate that some key departments were severely burnt and destroyed during the raid.”

“60 health workers and 25 patients in critical condition, including those on ventilators, reportedly remain in the hospital. The patients in moderate to severe condition were forced to evacuate to the destroyed and non-functional Indonesian Hospital. WHO is deeply concerned for their safety.”

The body, meanwhile, cautioned that the raid had come “after escalating restrictions on access for WHO and partners, and repeated attacks on or near the facility since early October. Such hostilities and the raids are undoing all our efforts and support to keep the facility minimal functional.”

Also on Saturday, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas urged dispatching of international observes to the coastal sliver so they would prove the futility of the regime’s claims that the Palestinian resistance had set its fighters and weapons up at health facilities across Gaza so the Israeli military could try to justify its aggression against those sites under the pretext of targeting the resistance.

It said the regime’s “criminal army” was coming up with the claims as part of its “systematic destruction of all health centers and hospitals across Gaza.”

It, likewise, pointed to the raid on Kamal Adwan, during which Israeli forces had set fire and destroyed the facility.

The aggression, Hamas said, “places a historic responsibility upon the shoulders of the United Nations and the international community towards stopping the war of genocide and ethnic cleansing that is being conducted against the Palestinian nation.”
