Israel says 2 more troops killed in southern Gaza
The Israeli military reports two more soldiers have been killed during fighting with the Palestinian resistance fighters in the southern part of the besieged Gaza Strip.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the military said reservist Major Moshiko Maxim Rozenwald, 35, was a company commander in an engineering battalion of the Nahal Brigade.
The name of the second soldier has not yet been publicized. The israeli military did not say how they were killed.
Last week, three Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes with Palestinian resistance fighters in northern Gaza. In the same period, the Israeli military announced the deaths of four soldiers killed in Southern Lebanon, despite the ceasefire currently in effect there.
The latest death toll brings to 817 the total number of Israeli soldiers confirmed killed since October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Israeli war ministry's department of rehabilitation said that over 13,500 soldiers and officers have been wounded during Israel's war on Gaza. About 1,500 of them sustained injuries on two separate occasions.
The report highlights that 287 soldiers suffered head injuries, 87 of which are categorized as severe, and 10 soldiers are now confined to wheelchairs as a result of their wounds.
Additionally, the ministry stated that 37 percent of the injured personnel sustained limb injuries, with the majority being bone fractures.
Mental health challenges have also emerged as a significant concern, affecting approximately 5,200 soldiers.
Of these, 3,350 are dealing with anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties, while 1,300 have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
The figures underscore the heavy toll the war has taken on the physical and mental well-being of military personnel.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that 10 soldiers took their own lives between October 7 and May 11, according to military data.
