The Iranian foreign minister has welcomed the enactment of a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, describing the Lebanese victory as the fruit of the Arab nation’s steadfastness against the Zionist aggression and heroic sacrifices made by fighters from the resistance group.
Abbas Araghchi made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib on Thursday.
The achievement was the result of the indescribable perseverance of the Lebanese people, sacrifices made by Lebanese resistance fighters on the battlefield, as well as the efforts and insight undertaken by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and the Beirut government, the top Iranian diplomat pointed out.
Araghchi pointed out the Zionist regime’s abysmal record of violating signed agreements and international resolutions, reaffirming the Islamic Republic of Iran’s unwavering support for the Lebanese government, nation, army and its resistance movement.
Turning to recent developments in Syria’s northern Aleppo province, where members of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group have overrun many government-controlled areas and killed dozens of Syrian military soldiers, the Iranian foreign minister termed the incidents a US-Israeli scenario aimed at destabilizing West Asia after failures of the Zionist regime in confronting Hezbollah.
Araghchi underlined that the menace of terrorism has been countered effectively.
For his part, Bou Habib briefed his Iranian counterpart on the status quo in Lebanon after the implementation of the ceasefire deal and appreciated the solidarity and unflinching support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Lebanon.
Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah after suffering heavy losses following more than 14 months of fighting and failing to achieve its goals in its aggression on Lebanon. The truce agreement officially came into effect at 04:00 local time (0200 GMT) on Wednesday.
Hezbollah opened a support front for Palestinians in Gaza only a day after the Israeli regime unleashed its genocidal war against the besieged territory in October 2023, launching numerous retaliatory attacks against Israeli targets in the occupied territories.
Following the truce announcement, the resistance movement warned it was fully ready to counter further potential Israeli aggression against Lebanon while stressing the recent ceasefire deal was driven by its thousands-strong triumphant operations.
