Iran response to IAEA move
Iran’s parliament speaker says the country has begun operating advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges. That’s in response to the recent resolution by the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency against the county. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf says Iran’s move is a reaction to what he called the abuse of the board of governors by the US, Germany, France and Britain. The four countries proposed the text of the resolution. Qalibaf says the anti-Iran move was an illegitimate step by the Western governments. The IAEA resolution demands clarification by Iran about what the agency calls the possible presence or use of undeclared nuclear materials. Tehran has dismissed all such allegations as unfounded and political which are aimed at putting pressure on Iran.
Hezbollah retaliation
Hezbollah has carried out a major retaliatory missile strike on an area north of Tel Aviv, setting off sirens across the northern occupied territories. The Israeli military says five Hezbollah missiles targeted the Tel Aviv area. The attack forced the closure of Ben Gurion Airport in the city. Hezbollah says it has fired 64 missiles at northern Palestine. A series of the projectiles hit a factory in Ma’alot in northern occupied territories. Footage from the incident showed considerable destruction inside the facility. The movement also struck the gathering of Israeli forces in Khiam and Metulla as well as the Shraga military in northern occupied territories. Hezbollah has conducted drone and missile strikes in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and its onslaught on Gaza. Its fighters have also been battling Israeli occupation forces on the ground in southern Lebanon.
Anti-Israel sentiment
A gunman opens fire in the vicinity of the Israeli embassy in Jordan’s capital, Amman, injuring three officers. The attacker was shot dead later in the Rabiah neighborhood of Amman, which is a flashpoint for frequent anti-Israeli demonstrations. Security forces closed the roads leading to the embassy in Amman after the incident. Jordan has witnessed some of the biggest peaceful rallies across the region as anti-Israeli sentiment runs high over the regime’s ongoing war on Gaza. Many of the country’s 12 million citizens are of Palestinian origin. Many of them are descendants of Palestinians who were expelled from their ancestral land or fled to Jordan following the onset of war in the occupied territories back in 1948.
