Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says heroic resistance by Palestinian people and fighters will ultimately lead to destruction of the Zionist regime of Israel.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement, in Tehran on Tuesday morning, hours before the 69-year-old Iranian president took the oath of office before Parliament.
“In response to the callous crimes committed by Zionists, the courageous resistance of the Palestinian people and their fighters fills us with pride. We firmly believe that this steadfast resistance will lead to the ultimate victory of the people, the liberation of Palestinian territories and the destruction of the Zionist regime,” Pezeshkian said.
Haniyeh had traveled to Iran to take part in Pezeshkian’s swearing-in ceremony held Tuesday afternoon.
The newly-elected president emphasized that Iran’s support for the cause of Palestine’s freedom predates the Islamic Revolution of 1979, reflecting longstanding concern among the Iranian people.
“The Iranian people have always condemned the Zionist regime's crimes and aggression, and have steadfastly supported the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people. Moving forward, this support will only grow stronger and more resolute,” Pezeshkian said.
Israel’s brutality and the crimes its commits in the besieged Gaza Strip are sources of revulsion and outrage for all free people, regardless of religion.
Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.
The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed 39,363 Palestinians, mostly women and children, leaving 90,923 others injured. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under rubble.
Haniyeh, for his part, congratulated Pezeshkian on earning the trust of the Iranian people, expressing gratitude to the Iranian president for responding to his congratulatory message, emphasizing that the president’s steadfast support for the rights of the Palestinian people serves as a source of encouragement and pride for Palestinians.
“Today, Palestinian resistance stands on the front line against the Western hegemony. The enemy seeks to dismantle this front line to impose its policies and dominate the region, aiming to bring the resistance to its knees. This underscores the critical strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting resistance and countering the influence of regional representatives of arrogance, notably the Zionist regime,” the Hamas chief said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Haniyeh met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and hailed Iran’s good and strong position in support of Palestine and the resistance movement.
