Israel attacks east Lebanon after Hezbollah downs drone

The Israeli military has conducted air raids on Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley, along the border with Syria.

A source close to the Hezbollah resistance movement told AFP that the Israeli strikes targeted Janta village and the town of Safri at dawn on Sunday.

Meanwhile, two Lebanese security sources told Reuters that the Israeli attacks targeted a Hezbollah training camp in Janta.

There were no casualties from the aerial assaults, according to a source in Lebanon's Civil Defense Department.

In the meantime, the Israeli military announced that it had targeted a compound and three additional infrastructures belonging to Hezbollah’s air defense unit.

It said the strikes came in response to Hezbollah’s downing of an advanced Israeli reconnaissance drone.

On Saturday, Hezbollah shot down a Hermes 900 drone, which was violating Lebanon's airspace, with a surface-to-air missile.

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging deadly fire since early October, shortly after the occupying regime launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip following a surprise operation by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group.

Hezbollah has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as Israel continues its brutal aggression against the besieged Gaza, which has so far killed at least 33,137 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 75,815 others.

Hezbollah fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing a humiliating retreat upon the occupation’s military on both occasions.
