Israeli onslaught on Gaza
There’s no sign of a let-up in the Israeli regime’s onslaught on the Gaza Strip. In its latest strikes, the Israeli military targeted a home in Jabalia in the north of the coastal sliver, killing at least 39 people. Israeli warplanes also carried out fierce attacks on several other Palestinian refugee camps, including in the southern city of Khan Yunis, which has been under heavy artillery fire as well. More than two months into the Israeli genocide in Gaza, civilian areas and infrastructure, including over 190 mosques, have been destroyed despite worldwide condemnation. The death toll from the Israeli strikes has now reached nearly 18 thousand mostly women and children. Almost 50 thousand Palestinians have also been wounded in the attacks.
Response to aggression
Palestinian resistance fighters are inflicting heavy losses on invading Israeli occupation troops in the Gaza Strip. The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, says it ambushed Israeli forces in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. A number of regime soldiers were killed and injured there. Six Israeli armored vehicles were also targeted in Jabalia with rockets. Intense fighting also continues across the coastal strip including Khan Yunis in the south. Israel has so far confirmed the killing of one hundred and two of its soldiers since it launched a ground operation in Gaza about five weeks ago. Palestinians say the number of Israeli fatalities is much higher.
US Gaza ceasefire veto
Reactions are pouring in from around the world to the United States’ move to veto a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The UN Secretary-General has deplored the Security Council’s failure to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and condemned the divisions that he said have paralyzed the world body. Antonio Guterres noted that the UN’s authority and credibility were severely undermined by its delayed response to the Israeli onslaught. Meanwhile, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi said the US has proved to be the root cause of Israel’s aggression, fueling the regime’s genocide in Gaza. Also, the Palestinian Prime Minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh has said the US should also be held responsible for the loss of thousands of Palestinian lives in Gaza. This is while Israel’s prime minister has applauded Washington for its stance, and criticized those who supported the ceasefire.
