The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy says his force along with the Iranian Army's naval division have “frustrated” those who claim to be "maritime superpowers."

Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri made the remarks in a message sent to Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani on Monday, on the occasion of the Iranian Navy Day.

“Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy and the IRGC's Navy … have turned into a progressive and deterrent power in various dimensions in the region,” he said.

The Iranian naval forces, he added, “have undertaken their important task of defending the holy Islamic Republic establishment and the Islamic Revolution at the current critical time, inspiring respect from all self-proclaimed maritime superpowers and frustrating them.”

He also emphasized that Iran’s maritime sovereignty was achieved through unity and rapport.

Tangrisi further said that the Iranian naval forces are not afraid of any power other than the divine nature and that they will do their best in the path generating power for the country and leading to its progress.

The Iranian naval forces are today self-sufficient in manufacturing surface and sub-surface vessels. They have also increased their presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.
