Scientific publications penned by Iranian researchers have earned the Islamic Republic the first rank among the world's Muslim nations in terms of scientific citation in 2023.
Ahmad Fazelzadeh, head of the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), provided the information in an interview with IRNA on Wednesday, citing the Scopus database.
The information offered by the database also gives Iran the 14th place among the countries of the world as far as scientific citation is concerned, he remarked.
This is while in 2022, Iran was second among the world's Muslim countries and 17 across the globe concerning scientific citation, "which points to the growth of Iran's [scientific] institutions and universities over the past year," Fazalzadeh noted.
"One of the criteria of assessment [in the area] is the research impact factor and the referenceability of the citations of scientific works," he said.
"By publishing 854 highly-cited articles, Iranian scientists earned the world's 15th place in the Scopus database and 17th in the Web of Science database," the official noted, adding that "in 2023, they enhanced their rank to 16th on the international arena."
"Concerning international cooperation in the production of scientific articles, which is one of the symbols of scientific diplomacy, Iran earned the world's 22nd place by producing 7,265 articles jointly developed with international researchers," Fazalzadeh stated.
