Iranian men's weightlifting team has been crowned champion at the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships in South Korea after romping home with eight medals at the prestigious continental tournament.
The Iranian squad ended on the podium with 635 points followed by the Uzbek team, which gained 631 points to be declared runner-up. China garnered 608 points and came in third.
Iranian representatives Hossein Soltani, Mirmostafa Javadi, Mehdi Karami, Ayat Sharifi and Alireza Yousefi put up an impressive performance at Jinju Arena in South Korea’s southeastern city of Jinju, grabbing a total of two gold medals, three silvers and three bronze.
Earlier, female Iranian weightlifter Fatemeh Keshavarz displayed her grit and determination at the Asian championships, picking up two bronze medals in the 64-kilogram weight class.
The 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships started in Jinju, South Korea, on May 5, and concluded on May 13.
The tournament brought together 251 male and female athletes from 35 countries.
