Every year, as Arba'een approaches, lovers of Imam Hussein, from various countries, converge to his shrine in the Iraqi city of Karbala. Likewise, hundreds of people who were not able to go to Iraq this year, held a similar march here in Kabul despite the recent change of government and instability.

Men and women, teens and the elders including Shias and Sunis, gathered at a shrine called AbulFazel in Kabul and renewed their allegiance to Imam Hossein. They say their aim is to call for solidarity, unity and social justice. The participants wish the best for all Muslims and ask them to pray for Afghanistan.

People deliver free food to those in need for the love of Imam Hossein. They also hold other mourning ceremonies in Kabul as well as across Afghanistan.

Arba'een this year was marked differently in Kabul due to government collapse and the coronavirus pandemic, with many mourners hoping they were in Karbala. They wish they can attend the march in Iraq in the upcoming years and join the pilgrims.
