Canadian Open: Medvedev beats Bublik, reaches third round

Daniil Medvedev has come from a set down to edge past Alexander Bublik of Kazakhistan 2 sets to 1, in the second round of the Canadian Open.

Bublik, surprisingly got the upper hand by taking the opening set 6-4. However, the world No. 2 found his rhythm and easily took the second set 6-3.

Medvedev, who is the 2019 runner-up at the event, remained consistent as he defeated the Kazak 6-4 in the third set, to end the contest after two hours.

Medvedev will next face either Jannik Sinner or James Duckworth in the third round.

Meanwhile, defending champion Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Canadian Open with an ongoing foot injury.

The injury kept the world No. 4 out of Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics this year, and played a role in his shock third-round exit at the Washington Open last week.

The Spaniard, who may now miss the Cincinnati Masters before the US Open begins on the 30th of August, will be replaced at the Canadian Open by his countryman Feliciano Lopez.
