The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has called on all Muslims to resist the West’s aggression and wickedness. Jacob Zuma trial
The corruption trial of former South African president, Jacob Zuma, resumes under tight security in a bid to forestall another wave of deadly unrest over his jailing. Army soldiers and police were stationed outside the court amid fears of further violent protests following days of relative calm. Zuma is accused of graft and corruption during his tenure between 2009 and 2018. Earlier this month, the former president was jailed for 15 months for contempt of court after he defied a Constitutional Court order to appear before an investigation commission. His imprisonment triggered violent protests, looting and arson, leaving commercial areas ransacked and at least 200 people dead.
Europe deadly flood
The death toll from last week’s torrential rains and flooding in Western Europe hits 196 as the search continues for the victims. Germany has confirmed the deaths of at least 165 people in the country’s west, mostly from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The exact number of the missing remains unclear. However, authorities say they have been unable to reach out to over 1,000 people because of disrupted communication networks. The federal government has pledged to improve the country's warning systems amid growing criticism over a lack of warnings for the deadly incident. At least 31 people have also died in Belgium. Rescue workers are still searching for survivors in parts of northwestern Europe. The death toll could rise as many people are still unaccounted for.
