Israeli officials have announced a plan to build an illegal outpost in the northern part of the occupied West Bank in grave contravention of international law and United Nation Security Council resolutions against the Tel Aviv regime’s land expropriation and settlement expansion policies in occupied Palestinian lands.
According to a report published by the Israeli Hebrew-language Maariv daily newspaper, the authorities on Sunday approved the establishment of Evyatar outpost in southern Nablus following talks between Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett and minister for military affairs Benny Gantz.
The report added that the Israeli army’s so-called Civil Administration decided last week to make preparations for the return of extremist Jewish settlers to the illegal outpost.
The development comes a few days after Israeli settlers vacated the illegal Evyatar outpost on Friday afternoon, following an agreement struck with the Tel Aviv regime that will allow for the wildcat hilltop town to remain intact and under permanent supervision of the Israeli army.
Separately on Friday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that Israeli forces had injured 411 anti-settlement Palestinian protesters during clashes around Evyatar outpost.
The humanitarian organization said 23 of those civilians were shot with live ammunition fired by Israeli forces.
The Red Crescent also noted that some 260 Palestinians suffered breathing difficulties due to inhaling tear gas fired by Israeli troops during the confrontation, while 70 were wounded from rubber bullets.
More than 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds. All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.
All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law as they are built on occupied land. The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.
