The Lebanese people have held a gathering in the capital, Beirut, to express solidarity with Palestinians in their heroic resistance against the deadly Israeli onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

The gathering on Monday was attended by senior officials of Lebanese political and religious factions, Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah and prominent heads of Palestinian resistance groups.

The event was held as the Israeli regime continues its incessant aggression against Palestinians, with some 200 civilians, including women and children, killed and thousands of others injured in the wake of intense rocket attacks on Gaza.

Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, head of the Executive Council of Lebanon's Hezbollah, said the Israeli regime was repeating the same mistakes it committed during the 2006 war and that the resistance movements in the region was much more capable than in the past.

Safieddine also said the United States and Israel have been creating‎ wars and sedition in our region for decades and the Israel regime, in particular, has been plotting to drive a wedge between regional states.

Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement Ziad al-Nakhala said the resistance groups are involved in a “great battle” all throughout Palestine but victory over the Israeli regime is round the corner.

Nakhala described Israeli shield against Palestinian retaliatory attacks as “weaker than a spider's web” and said the resistance front would soon achieve victory by humiliating the occupying regime.

"We will fight to drive out the enemy, and the Israelis have no place in our country and the region and will surely be destroyed," he added.

The secretary-general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement went on to say that, “All our people will turn a new leaf in defense of al-Quds and al-Aqsa Mosque, and that al-Quds will remain the key to the fight against the Zionist regime.”

Nakhala also urged all Arab and Muslim countries to support Palestinians and their resistance against the Israeli aggression like Iran does.

The Israeli military and illegal settlers intensified the regime’s violations against Palestinians across Jerusalem al-Quds, including on the al-Aqsa Mosque’s compound -- Islam's third-holiest site that is situated in al-Quds’ Old City -- after the beginning of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

The military attacked thousands of worshipers on the compound, and also tried to dispose of Palestinians from al-Quds’ Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Over the past week, the Tel Aviv regime has been launching large-scale airstrikes across Gaza, razing homes and civilian infrastructure to the ground. The Israeli artillery and tanks have also been targeting the blockaded coastal enclave.

Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas and other resistance groups have retaliated by firing thousands of rockets towards the occupied Palestinian lands. Many of the projectiles have flown into the depths of the territories and well beyond.
