Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri

Response to Israel aggression

The Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces says anti-Israel measures recently taken by resistance forces and similar future steps will bring the regime to its senses. Major General Mohammad Baqeri said Israel wrongly thinks it will get no response to its continued mischievous acts against Syria and elsewhere, including at sea. The general did not specify any particular group but pledged that the resistance front will certainly give the regime a strong response. The general also stressed that Israel will not be in peace if it continues its mischief against Iran. Baqeri’s comments come after a Syrian missile exploded near a nuclear power plant in the Israeli city of Dimona.

US 'medical terrorism'

Iran’s Foreign Minister has once again condemned what he called the United States’ medical terrorism against Iranians. In a tweet, Mohammad Javad Zarif said COVID-19 patients in Iran are suffering due to Washington’s sanctions on drugs and medical equipment. He said Palestinians are also having a hard time dealing with the pandemic while the US has a vaccine surplus. This, he added, is due to Washington’s malice toward the Palestinians. Zarif also called for an international inoculation program to tackle the pandemic.

India coronavirus crisis

India has set a global record for daily coronavirus infections for a fourth straight day, registering nearly 350,000 new cases. The total number of cases in the world’s second most populous nation is now inching closer to 17 million. It also set a new record of deaths with nearly 2,800 fatalities, pushing the total to more than 192,000. Meanwhile, the capital New Delhi has extended lockdown measures by another week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all citizens to take COVID-19 vaccines and exercise caution, warning that a storm of infections has shaken the country. Officials blame the spike on public reluctance to social distancing and other health protocols. Infections have overwhelmed hospitals in major cities, with many facing shortage of oxygen supplies and beds.
