Yemenis in Sana’a have demonstrated against a decision by the US State Department to blacklist the Ansarullah movement, one day before it takes effect.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo notified Congress of his intention to designate Ansarullah as a ‘Foreign Terrorist Organization’ on January 10.

Pompeo accused the movement of conducting “terrorist” acts, including cross-border attacks threatening civilian populations, infrastructure and commercial shipping.

To the Yemenis, the real terrorists are the ones who have created insecurity and chaos in the region with the help of their allies.

Washington’s decision may impact the humanitarian situation in Yemen and hamper peace negotiations.

The United Nations has already called the situation in Yemen the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
