The coronavirus outbreak is taking its toll on Gaza’s ailing economy. The pandemic has brought the Gaza Strip’s battered economy to a virtual standstill, pushing more Palestinians into unemployment and poverty.

On Wednesday the Palestinian ministry of health in Gaza reported two more coronavirus infections while warning about a lack of testing kits and hospital supplies.
The coronavirus has threatened the socioeconomic welfare of nearly two million Palestinians living in Gaza as much as their health. Most Gazans are currently finding it hard to provide for their families.
Palestine declared a state of emergency in March to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus have nearly halted business activity and weakened Gazans’ purchasing power.
Experts have sounded the alarm over the economic hardships the people of Gaza are going through amid the coronavirus pandemic. The economy of the tiny coastal sliver has been rapidly shrinking due to inhumane Israeli practices.
Gaza’s economy was already struggling under a years-long Israeli blockade. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, poverty and unemployment are further increasing in the enclave because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
