Just like the rest of the world, Iran is working round the clock to provide child workers with health, education, nutrition and protection amid the coronavirus outbreak. Most of these unfortunate children are often selling gums and toys, or cleaning car windows on the streets of the capital Tehran and other big cities around the country.
Welfare authorities say these days are even more difficult for child workers. They told Press TV that over the past few months, they have stepped up efforts to better protect the welfare of these children, and the work is still ongoing.
Most of these child laborers are those who sleep on the same streets from which they try to make a living. Amid the epic challenges presented by COVID-19, welfare officials are calling for hope and national solidarity to better protect them.
Officials also say they have identified several health risks posed to the children during the pandemic and are calling for swift action to protect them.
Based on the latest figures released by UNESCO, of the nearly 31 million children worldwide who are displaced, over 13 million are refugees and 17 million are displaced within their own countries. Millions are also at heightened risk of harm, while on lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
