Mexican artisan Dalton Ramirez chose to approach the coronavirus pandemic in a peculiar way by creating a virus-shaped pinata in his shop in Reynosa, as footage filmed on Tuesday shows.
"It's a bit of humor, we, Mexicans, try to see the humorous side of things. I mean everyone got scared by this thing which is going on," said Dalton Ramirez.
The 'coronavirus pinata' however depicts a caricatured emoji supposed to represent an Asian person, as well as bats. Regarding this, the artisan responded that "the truth is that in Mexico it's very hard for us to be racist, we love everyone of any race, we respect [everyone]," before adding that he does not have an intention to "offend anyone."
Mexico's health ministry said on Monday that confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the country rose to 82.
According to the latest reports by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), at least 198,000 people have been infected by the COVID-19 worldwide and over 7,750 people have died.
