Protesters across Indian-administered Kashmir poured into the streets after Friday prayers to denounce the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Quds force.

Soleimani was assassinated, along with deputy head of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mehdi al-Mohandis near Baghdad international airport in an airstrike approved by the US President Donald Trump.

The protesters carried placards and portraits of Lieutenant General Soleimani as they marched the streets. Chanting "death to America", they accused Washington of escalating tensions in the region and bringing it to the brink of chaos and mayhem.

The protesters also burnt American flag and expressed solidarity with all the resistance movements across the world.

The early Friday drone strike comes close on the heels of an attack on the US embassy by Iraqi protesters over the killing of at least 25 members of Popular Mobilization Forces in the US strike. Analysts believe that the assassination of Soleimani and Mohandis are likely to draw severe retaliation from the Islamic Republic. Tehran has already vowed "harsh revenge" against Washington for killing its most loved and popular general.

The killing of Qassem Soleimani, Iran's most powerful general by America has triggered widespread outrage across Kashmir region and has fanned the flames of conflict between Tehran and Washington. How Iran will react to this provocative strike only will time tell.
