Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Islamic Republic has become the target of an all-out economic and political war by the enemies but it can and will come out on top in the end.
Speaking at the at a ceremony marking the start of the Government Week, Rouhani said the Iranian government was subjected to a similar campaign of pressure during the early days of the 1979 Islamic Revolution but defeated the enemy with help from the nation.
"Today the country is faced with different types of problems and is subjected to an economic, psychological and to some extent political war," he said on Wednesday.
"We should end this war with a victory for the Iranian nation and not only this is achievable, it is certain considering our nation's history and its record and God's promises," he added.
Rouhani's remarks come as Iran is dealing with a campaign of "maximum pressure" by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
After quitting the 2015 Iran nuclear deal -- also signed by the UK, France, China, Russia and Germany -- in May 2018, Trump said he would impose the "toughest ever" sanctions on Iran to force the Islamic Republic to renegotiate another deal that addresses its ballistic missiles program and curbs its regional influence.
Trump turned up the pressure earlier this year, by unveiling a plan to zero out Iran's oil exports and gave substantially increased the US military presence near Iran's regional waters in the Persian Gulf, an strategic body of water that passes through most of the world's oil.
The pressure, however, has failed to force Iran into a corner.
In June, Iran made it clear that it was not giving in to the pressure by shooting down an advanced US drone that had entered Iranian airspace over the Persian Gulf and near the Strait of Hormuz.
The US has been seeking to put together an international patrol force to secure the waters off Iran, under the false pretext that Iranian forces have been behind mysterious sabotage attacks against tankers and commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, however, remains unfazed by the efforts and has even turned down several offers by American officials and their representatives in form of high-level officials of third-party countries to sit down for unconditional talks.
Rouhani said Wednesday that Iran will get past the current war with "unity, patience, resistance, and innovation."
"The more the nation and the government are united, the more resilient the Islamic Republic will be," he added.
The president also thanked all government officials and employees and their families for withstanding the enemy pressure and pushing the country forward.
He noted that Iranian people have been the world's most powerful in forming governments and establishing the rule of law throughout the country's rich history.
