More people in the United States have put the blame on President Donald Trump rather than the members of the Democratic party for the six-day partial government shutdown.

According to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Thursday 47 percent of Americans blamed Trump for the shutdown, 33 percent blamed congressional Democrats, seven percent blamed Congress Republicans, and about 12 percent of those surveyed said "other" in response to who to blame for the partial shutdown. The poll was conducted online with 2,440 adult respondents.

Trump says he will bring the government shutdown to an end when Congress agrees to fund his security wall along the southern border.

Some 35 percent of those polled said they support including money for a wall on the Mexican border in a bill to open the government.

However, 25 percent of those polled said they backed Trump for shutting down parts of the federal government over the issue.

The government shutdown began on Saturday after Congress failed to agree with Trump's $5 billion demand for a wall on the US -Mexico border.

Republicans and Democrats now blame each other for the partial shutdown.
