Iran’s Persepolis has earned a 1-0 away victory in the first leg of its AFC Champions League semifinals clash against Qatar’s Al-Sadd.
The Qatari side who came out attacking in their home field missed the first scoring chance of the game in the 16th minute.
Two minutes later, Godwin Mensha nearly scored the opener for the Iranians but his shot went too high.
After the restart, the status quo remained unchanged until the 86th minute when Ali Alipour gave Persepolis the lead from the penalty spot.
The hosts also scored a goal in the stoppage time; however it was disallowed due to foul on the Persepolis keeper.
The two sides will reconvene on the 23rd of October at the Azadi stadium in Tehran.
