US, South Korea air force drill

South Korea and the US have launched major air force drills involving hundreds of aircraft from Kunsan Air Base.

Some 230 aircraft, including six F-22 and 18 F-35 stealth fighter jets, are participating in the annual 'Vigilant Ace' drills. A total of 12,000 US military personnel are also taking part in the exercises, which will last five days. The exercises come one week after North Korea announced the launch of a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that could "target the entire area of mainland United States."
