People in Poland have raised cash to buy a communist-era car for Hollywood star, Tom Hanks, after he tweeted about the car.

Hanks had posed next to several of the cars during a shoot late last year in the Hungarian capital Budapest.

He posted photos of himself next to Fiat 126s and wrote “I got a new car”.

After his tweets, poles held a fundraiser for Hanks. They raised about 2,000 euros to purchase a Fiat 126 in fetching turquoise.

The Italian Carmaker produced tiny ‘Fiats 126’ in Poland between 1971 to 2000 and had named the car "little guy".
