Brazil have been knocked of the 2016 Copa America after losing 1-0 to Peru at the Gillette Stadium.

The Brazilians pushed hard to open the scoring in the first 45 minutes of Sunday’s encounter but they just couldn’t break the deadlock. And it was the Peruvians who finally managed to take the lead in 78th minute through Raul Ruidiaz.

The 25-year-old received a fine cross from his teammate and somehow punched the ball into the back of the net using his right arm.

Despite Brazil’s objection to the goal, the Uruguayan referee sided with the Peruvians and allowed the goal to count. Dunga’s men failed find the equalizer until the final whistle which they needed to advance into the next stage of the tournament.

So 1-0 the final score and Peru progressed into the last 8 with the huge victory. This marks the first win in 31 years for Peru over their South American rivals.
