UK Queen slammed for sitting beside Bahraini king
Human rights groups have strongly criticized the UK’s decision to seat the King of Bahrain next to the Queen Elizabeth the Second during her 90th birthday celebrations.
Highlighting human rights violations in the small Persian Gulf state, the right groups said the decision reveals double standards on the part of Britain when it comes to human rights.
Syria, Yemen talks stalled
The Syria talks have been postponed until further notice. A new round of the negotiations on Syria may take place in late May or early June, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told reporters in St. Petersburg on Thursday.
“The date of the next round has not been determined yet. Meanwhile, the former Yemeni government has said it will suspend participating in the peace talks. There are speculations that Saudi Arabia is behind the postponement of these talks.
Israel set to form ‘most right-wing cabinet in history’
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to form the most right-wing cabinet in Israeli history with Avigdor Lieberman, a hardliner loathed by Palestinians, to join as minister of military affairs.
The current position is held by Moshe Ya’alon, who resigned abruptly amid differences with Netanyahu. Netanyahu’s allies have held negotiations with representatives of Lieberman’s far-right Yisrael Beitenu Party.
The return to the cabinet of Lieberman, who served as under Netanyahu from 2009 to 2012 and again from 2013 to 2015, has raised international concern about his policies -- especially on the conflict with the Palestinians.
