Israel continues occupation with US support: Analyst

Press TV interviewed Ashraf Ajramy, a political writer in Ramallah, to discuss the Israeli crimes against Palestinians in the occupied territories.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Let us get your opinion on the recent sweeping violence that has started since October last year?

Ajramy: I think the main reason [for] this wave of violence is the Israeli provocation. First of all the peace process stopped totally and after that there are Israeli measures on the ground in the West Bank, especially in East Jerusalem, in al-Aqsa Mosque and other places in the West Bank. The settlers, they are building all the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, these are measures that provocated the Palestinian people and led to the Palestinian youth to act to change the situation. This is the main reason.

I think that continuing the occupation from the Israeli side will lead to more and more violence and resistance from the Palestinians, also the Israeli provocation by murdering innocent people especially children and the Palestinian youth also makes something of a reaction from the Palestinian people to attack the Israeli soldiers and the policemen.

Press TV: What is perplexing is the silence of the international community … We have seen high-ranking US officials, Joe Biden and John Kerry, even taking it upon themselves to condemn Palestinians with regards to the violence that has been taking place in the occupied West Bank. What are your thoughts on that issue?

Ajramy: I think that the Israeli occupation is covered by the superpower USA and other European countries because without this cover in the United Nations and by violating the international law, Israel cannot do what they do now. This is the important, I think, excuse for the Israelis or motivation for the Israelis to continue the occupation and to continue killing and murdering our people. Without this cover and without this support from these superpowers, the Israelis won’t be able to continue their violation of the international law and the Palestinian human rights.

And we saw all the time that as Palestinian, the weak party, all the time from these superpowers point of view is responsible of what happens. They denied the occupation, they denied the Israeli provocation, they denied everything related to what happens to the Palestinian people [who] suffer under occupation more than about 50 years and now the whole and the majority of the superpowers tried to accuse the Palestinians of being responsible of the recent violence wave.

We see that Americans are responsible [for] what the Israelis [are] doing, even responsible [for] murdering the Palestinian people as well as other international parties who did not intervene to stop the Israeli crimes everywhere.
